Join Black Watch on an epic Arctic adventure and cruise to within 700 nautical miles of the North Pole, where the remarkable remote islands and ‘ghost towns’ of Spitsbergen will await your exploration.
Your time in Norway’s spectacular Arctic north begins with a day of relaxing scenic cruising. From the comfort of your ship you will enjoy views of the picturesque island village of Rørvik, marvel at the Torghatten ‘Mountain with the Hole’ and see the soaring peaks of the Seven Sisters Mountains before crossing the Arctic Circle en route to the stunning Lofoten Islands. Stopping at Leknes will offer you the chance to explore the islands’ Viking history, or tour to picturesque areas such as the Henningsvaer fishing village or Houkland Beach. Then in Tromsø – the ‘Gateway to the Arctic’ – you can see the iconic iceberg-shaped Arctic Cathedral and enjoy views from atop Mount Storsteinen before continuing northwards to Honningsvåg. From here the North Cape’s rugged landscapes are yours to explore, or perhaps you’d prefer to learn about life within the Arctic Circle at a cultural show performed by friendly locals. You will also witness the magical Midnight Sun – a simply unforgettable experience – as Black Watch heads to Spitsbergen.
Situated north of the Norwegian mainland, Spitsbergen's fascinating collection of islands feel beautifully isolated from the rest of civilisation. Exploring the ‘ghost towns’ of Pyramiden and Longyearbyen will be a unique and memorable experience, with abandoned Soviet-era buildings and mines offering a glimpse into the region’s rich industrial history. In Pyramiden, don’t miss the world’s northernmost Grand Piano – the ‘Red October’; then be sure to take the chance to go dog sledding or trek the Longyear Valley from Longyearbyen. Yet more scenic cruising is sandwiched between your time ashore in Spitsbergen, passing by the magnificent Nordenskiöldbreen and Tuna glaciers, and ‘The Temple’ mountain – situated along the scenic Tempelfjorden. Finally it’s on to the Faroe Islands to discover the striking scenic landscapes of Klaksvik and explore picturesque Tórshavn, which features flagstone streets, elegant streets and pretty parks. You’ll also enjoy a cruise through the Kalsoyarfjørður strait and by the extraordinary Cape Enniberg sea-cliff.
